Now You See It, Now You Don't!

TellzAll's subject for September is Rainbow Brite!

Have you ever wondered what cartoon shows children in the past watched? Well one of the shows that your parents probably enjoyed was "Rainbow Brite."

Rainbow Brite was only on television from 1984 to 1985, but the program was so popular that it also spawned a movie, "Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer," which was produced in 1985. Hallmark Cards sponsored the show, which starred Rainbow Brite, a young girl, who returned color to the "Colorless World." Rainbow Brite was originally known as "Wisp." Along with "Twink, a "sprite," Rainbow Brite freed the seven "Color Kids." Each kid represented one of the seven colors of the rainbow. Together, Rainbow Brite, Twink, and the Color Kids defeated the "Dark One," returning color to the Colorless World. With the Dark One's defeat, Wisp became known as Rainbow Brite, and the Colorless World became known as Rainbowland. Rainbow Brite continued to protect the colors on the Earth.

During the show's airing, dozens of products existed promoting "Rainbow Brite." Among the most popular toy was the Rainbow Brite doll. Mattel originally produced the initial Rainbow Brite toys. In 2004, Toy Play reintroduced Rainbow Brite to children with its own talking doll. More recently, the rainbow Brite television show and movie has been released on DVD, bringing Rainbow Brite to a new generation.
