We want you to meet some of the people involved with the Ohio Historical Society's Archaeological Department and learn about their careers. Who knows? After reading about them you may decide to follow in their footsteps.
Martha Potter Otto has been the curator of archaeology at the Ohio Historical Society since 1974; she actually started here as a student assistant in 1960 and then obtained both bachelor's and master's degrees in anthropology at OSU. Her job includes planning and installing exhibits both here and at the sites, obtaining grants, participating in excavations of prehistoric Adena and Hopewell sites, developing educational programs and maintaining our archaeology collections. She has had several professional articles published and is president of the Ohio Archaeological Council.

Jack Blosser is the site manager and archaeologist for the Ohio Historical Society at Fort Ancient State Memorial. He is a graduate of both Defiance College and the University of Cincinnati and has worked in archaeology for 21 years. His specialty is in Ohio Valley Hopewell. Jack teaches students who come to Fort Ancient or via distance learning about archaeology and the destructive nature of the science. As site manager he supervises nine staff members and creates educational programs which include mock excavations where students recover artifacts, record them, and interpret each.
