Kewpie Dolls:
Kewpie dolls were popular during the early 20th century (1900s).
The dolls were patented in 1913 by Rose O'Neill Wilson and distributed
by George Borgfeldt and Company. Kewpie dolls were made by many
companies both in the United States and abroad.
Kewpies were made from a variety of materials, including bisque,
celluloid, and composition. Generally they were inexpensive, costing
from 25 to 60 cents. Kewpie dolls were often given as prizes at
carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks.
There were many different types of Kewpies, including policemen,
firemen, cowboys, musicians, and farmers. A variety of military Kewpies
were produced during and after World War I.
