Tin Wind-up Toys:

During the late 1800s, toy makers made more spring-powered windup toys than any other type of moving toys. They made most of these toys from tin because it was lightweight, easy to work with, and the toys didn't easily break. Although plastics gradually replaced tin during the 20th century, modern tin windup toys still can be found in many toy departments. This collection of tin windup toys dates from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.
