Wooden Miniature Animals:

Miniature animals were among the earliest handmade wooden toys. Around the middle of the 19th century (1800s) toy makers began using machines to produce of such animals. Most late-19th and early-20th century (1900s) examples were turned on lathes and then hand-finished. These hand-carved animals from the late-19th century are exceptions.
