MARY WORTHINGTON (1797-1836)

"We stand in slippery places."

Mary Worthington Macomb, the eldest child of Thomas and Eleanor Worthington led a very tragic life. Against her father's wishes, she married David Macomb. Although the young man came from a prominent family, he could not to support his wife and children. In 1819, the sheriff sold the Macomb's belongings at public auction to help pay David's debts. Eventually, the family moved to Florida where their financial difficulties continued. Lured by the promise of wealth, Macomb moved his family to Texas. Mary became ill during the journey and never recovered. She died shortly after arriving in Texas, far away from home.

19 March, 1797:	Mary Worthington born in Berkeley County, (West) Virginia.
1808-1811:	Attended school in Kentucky.
1816:	Married David Macomb.
1816 13 March:	Mary's first daughter Eleanor was born.
1818:	Mary's second daughter Sarah Jane born, but died six months later.
1819:	The property of David and Mary Macomb sold at public auction.
1820:	Mary's third child and first son, Thomas Worthington Macomb born.
1821:	Mary's second son Louis Mark Macomb born.
1822:	Mary's fifth child Morris Miller Macomb born, but died six months later.
1823:	Mary's sixth child Mary Macomb was born.
1825:	Macomb family moved to Florida.
1827:	David Macomb, Mary's seventh child born.
1836 19 October:	Mary Worthington Macomb died in Texas.
