MARGARET WORTHINGTON (1811-1863)

"Taking care all she can."

Long after her siblings left home, Margaret remained at Adena, helping to take care of the house and assuming duties that her mother disliked, such as writing letters to her younger brother who was away at school. Family members counted on Margaret to care for them when they were ill and look after their property when they were away. In 1839, Margaret surprised her family by marrying Edward Mansfield, a widower with two children. Margaret Worthington was twenty-eight when she married, an age that was considered quite late for marriage in the 1830's.

MARGARET WORTHINGTON:
25 July, 1811:	Margaret, the seventh child of Thomas and Eleanor Worthington was born at Adena.
1825:	Attended the Emma Willard School, Troy, New York with her sister Ellen.
1827-1839:	Margaret lived at Adena to help her mother and siblings in any way she could.
1839 24 April:	Margaret married Edward Mansfield.
1843-1853:	Margaret bore four children.
1863 16 March:	Margaret Worthington Mansfield died.
