Modern Methods of Paint Analysis

The twenty-first century technique used in the Adena restoration involved chemical, microscopic, and spectroscopic analysis of paint chips. Paint analyst Frank Welsh discovered small fragments of paint on woodwork and walls and examined them closely, looking for layers of paint, determining the earliest layer, and then discovering the composition of the paint in order to determine its original color.
