ALBERT WORTHINGTON (1804-1834)

"Kind and gentle whatever his faults."

Albert was the Worthington's second son and fourth child. Albert's high spirits made him well loved by his brothers and sisters, but caused much concern to his parents. Unlike his siblings who studied hard to please their father, Albert was an indifferent student.

His father eventually apprenticed him to a merchant in New Orleans, but Albert found the social life of the city more to his liking than the mercantile business, and returned to Ohio after several business failures. Albert's letters illustrate his charm and recklessness as well as his often-stormy relationship with his father.

ALBERT WORTHINGTON:
18 August, 1804:	Born at Adena.
1819:	Participated with school friends in a Chillicothe debate club called The Washington Society.
1820:	Went with his brother James to survey in northwest Ohio.
1821:	Apprenticed by his father to a New Orleans merchant.
1824:	Involved in a duel in New Orleans and forced to flee the city briefly.
1825:	Decided to make his New Orleans permanent home.
1832:	Returned to Ohio.
1834:	Died at Adena.
